Cookstown, County Tyrone is the birthplace of my paternal grandmother, Caroline Kempton who married Leonard Edmund Woodbourne Jones of Woolwich Arsenal, London England.
ReplyDeleteTogether they emigrated to Canada, settling in Montreal where her three sons, Leonard, Ronald and Roy were born.
With his young family impoverished, as were many immigrant first generation Canadians, Leonard Sr, sought employment and enlisting in the Canadian Army, went overseas to serve God & Country.
Tragically his youngest child, Roy, died of starvation at his mother Carolne's breast and later, Caroline Kempton herself died of malnutrition.
Caroline Kempton-Jones was buried in eastend Montreal and rests for eternity alongside her beloved, Leonard Edmund Woodbourne Jones.
