Don't Let Your Money Fly Away: A 1909 Warning to Airship Investors | Paleofuture
Don't Let Your Money Fly Away: A 1909 Warning to Airship Investors | Paleofuture: "Today, new futuristic-looking technologies often attract investors hoping to make gobs of money. And airships of the past were no different. In the first few decades of the 20th century people scrambled to figure out how they might cash in on these exciting new inventions, which were slowly beginning to prove themselves technologically reliable.
But not everyone thought that commercial flight was a good investment. The January 2, 1909, issue of Literary Digest re-published portions of a December 10, 1908 editorial in Engineering News under the headline, “A Warning to Air-Ship Investors.”"

Trout Basics
Trout Basics: "Trout are cold-blooded beings and unlike humans, their body temperature varies and is directly related to the surrounding environment. Because of this their level of activity changes as the water temperature changes. If the water temperature fluctuates to much, they will decrease their level of activity accordingly to conserve energy. There seems to be a temperature range of about 20 to 25 degrees F in which most trout can maintain the status quo. Most studies have shown that trout will maintain a normal regimen in temperatures ranging from around 40 to 65 degrees give or take a few degrees on the high and/or low sides. In this ideal range of temperatures is when you will find the trout actively feeding. When the water temperature fluctuates higher or lower than these ranges, they usually become sluggish or dormant and can even die if temperatures fluctuate too much outside of their ideal range."

The Walrus » Iqaluit Taxi » Arctic Cabaret » Field Notes
The Walrus » Iqaluit Taxi » Arctic Cabaret » Field Notes: "Taxi talk on a cold, busy Friday night in Canada’s newest capital. Iqaluit’s population has nearly doubled over the last decade, and the town now suffers mini rush hours and traffic jams, especially at the major intersection, Four Corners, where signs stop traffic in both English and Inuktitut. Hummers and motorcycles have recently joined the parade of ATVs and big old American cars, nicknamed “belugas.” But there is still no traffic light in Iqaluit, no traditional sidewalk, and not a single public bus — hence the eighty-odd licensed taxis serving a population of about 7,000.
